For Amáli, the stone comes first. The settings are individually handmade- never cast- so that they can custom fit each 18K yellow gold setting to its stone, building a one-of-a-kind artwork around each special gem.
Amáli designs their custom metal setting to cradle and complement each individual gemstone, hand-shaping a gold bezel around its unique shape and adding textile-style embellishments one chain link at a time. Their design and attention to detail are reminiscent of the Etruscan style, with the braided detail and gold granulated prongs.
Boulder Opal is one of Amáli's favorites to work with for jewelry, because they display an array of dazzling colors within one striking gemstone. Boulder Opals tend to display a lot of medium-hue blues, reminiscent of Turquoise or Caribbean waters. Boulder Opal is naturally attached to ironstone which adds to its durability.
This unique ring showcases a 5.8ct boulder opal in Amáli's signature Etruscan style setting with braided bezels and beaded detailing - all done by hand in 18K yellow gold complete with a satin finish.
What is Boulder Opal?
Boulder Opals are naturally formed opals with the host rock still attached, which makes it more durable than other opals. Some Boulder Opals will show very little of the host rock and will appear almost identical to Black Opal. Other Boulder Opals show off the host rock running through the opal like a matrix.
How to care for your Opals:
With any opals, avoid exposure to harsh chemicals. This can be anything from perfume to sunscreen. While it is suitable for jewelry, it’s not as scratch-resistant as Topaz or Tourmaline. You’ll want to store it in its own cloth bag or box away from other gemstones.
Boulder Opals are more durable than others, since they contain additional stones, but we do not recommend them for daily wear.
