For Amáli, the gemstone comes first. Their settings are individually handmade- never cast- so they can custom fit each setting to its stone, building a one-of-a-kind artwork around each special gem.

Amáli designs their custom metal setting to cradle and complement each individual gemstone, hand-shaping a gold bezel around its unique shape and adding textile-style embellishments one chain link at a time. Their design and attention to detail are reminiscent of the Etruscan style, with the braided detail and gold granulated prongs.

This ring is truly one of a kind. The center is a 16x9.5mm snakeskin agate, set in a hand-shaped 18K yellow gold bezel to perfectly encapsulate its unique shape.

What is Snakeskin agate?

Snakeskin agate is a variety of agate with botryoidal formations that give it a 'bobbly' distinct appearance, giving the appearance of snakeskin when it is cut and polished.

Agate formation starts with a cavity, a void in a volcanic rock. This rock erupts to the surface and hardens, containing water and carbon dioxide which then bubbles out, causing the rock to be filled with holes. Water containing silica percolates through the rock, causing the minerals in the water to crystallize. One of the minerals is quartz, making up 90% of agate stones.

Agate ranks 6.5–7 on the Mohs hardness scale, which makes it an acceptable option for jewelry. We don't typically see snakeskin agate jewelry, making this piece truly unique and one of a kind.
