One of the finest red spinel colors you'll find.  This beautiful one is gemstone conneseurs delight.  The color is magnficent.  The electric red is almost hypnotic, it just draws you in.

This particular shade of red spinel comes from only one area in the world.  Found exclusively in the mines of Mogok, Burma (commonly called Myanmar now, but Burma is a designation for gemstone origin.)  High quality red spinels, like this one, have increased in value dramatically the past several years.  Jewelers, and their clients, have finally appreciated that high end red spinels offer better value, and more attractive color and brilliance than any other red gemstone.

Spinel vs Ruby:

Spinel is more rare.  Spinels are more rare than rubies.  Ruby deposits are found in many parts of the world:  Spinel is much more limited.

Spinels are generally more natural. Almost all rubies have been treated (some treatments are very unstable) to enhance their appearance.  Most spinels are 100% natural.

Spinels are prettier.  Many people prefer the color of a nice red spinel over a ruby.   Spinels have much better brilliance than rubies.  Most rubies just don't have much life in them.  By contrast, a nice red spinel can almost be electric, with sparkle similar to a diamond.  Just won't find this with a ruby.  Most are very dull.

Spinels are much more affordable than a similar quality ruby.   A top end ruby will cost 2-3x the price of a spinel.

Advantage:  Spinel.  No wonder educated gem collectors and afficandos are driving up the prices.  We anticipate the prices to continue to rise for the forseable future as there is a limited supply of the bright red colored spinels.

This beauty is 1.15ct, cushion cut (6.1 x 5.9mm), with excellent brilliance and out of this world red color.  It is loose.  So you can create the perfect finished piece of jewelry.  Will you set it with a diamond halo surrounding the spinel?  Using high (D-F) colored diamonds would frame the red spinel wonderfully.  We can help you with a custom piece.

Each red spinel is unique.  You will never find another exactly like this one.  As the size goes up on these red spinels, the price per carat goes up exponetionally.  A 2ct size of the same quality will run about $10,000, or more.
